Elkader Register, Thur., 11 Nov. 1920.
Mrs. Ole Johnson passed away at her home in Wagner township on Thursday, November 4th, aged sixty-nine years, seven months and twenty-one days. She had been in poor health for some time and had received the devoted care of her daughters living near but death came unexpectedly through heart failure.
Aase Johnsen Rotegar was a daughter of Ole and Ambjor Wold and was born March 14th, 1851, in the state of Wisconsin, and later moved to Clayton county with her parents.
On May 2nd, 1870, she was married to Ole Johnson, who preceded her in death July 1st, 1907. A triple wedding was celebrated at the Ole Wold farm home on that bright May day, the other couples being Ole Wold, Jr. and Miss Carrie Olson, Ole Christianson and Miss Gurnild Wold. Of the six only Gunild, Mrs. Christianson, survives.
Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, of whom eleven survive. They are: Otto O. Johnson, of St. Olaf; Helene, now Mrs. Louis Larson of Watertown, S.D.; Henry of Wagner township; Emma, now Mrs. John Larson of Lily, S.D.; Johanna, now Mrs. Elmer Rundquist, of St. Olaf; Beata, now Mrs. Herbert Olson of St. Olaf; Nettie, now Mrs. Wm. Gehring, of Elgin, Iowa; Johan B., Rudolph, Blaine and Orvin A., at home. A son, Olavas, died July 11, 1909, and a daughter, Ruth, died in infancy. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Ole Christianson, and by ten grandchildren who with a host of friends mourn the loss of their loved one.
Deceased was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Wisconsin and later was confirmed in the Norway church in Wagner township, of which she was a faithful and devout member until her death. She was a devoted mother, a kind neighbor, a true friend and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Norway church, Rev. Arveson, who has officiated at so many occasions for the family, preaching the sermon, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The choir, led by Mr. A. L. Peterson, sang several suitable selections and finally the remains were laid to rest in the Norway cemetery, five sons and a grandson serving as pall bearers.
Thus closes a life of service, may she rest in peace until the morning of the great resurrection.
