Ernest Meyer was the son of the late John F. and Mary Meyer of Boardman township and was born on the home farm south of Elkader, March 26, 1880. He grew to manhood here and on January 2_, 1906, was married to Miss Agnes O'Brien at Volga City.

Shortly after their marriage they went to Turner county, South Dakota, where they lived about two years. Returning to Clayton county the family made their home in Elkader for about ten years, leaving about a year ago for Labolt, S.D.

Mr. Meyer is survived by his devoted wife, four sons and three daughters; John, Dorothy, Kathleen, Vincent, Frances, Joseph and Bernita, John the oldest being about fourteen years of age. Two brothers, William F. Meyer, of Labolt, S.D., and C. F. Meyer, of this township, with three sisters, Mrs. H. H. Dohrer, of Volga City, Mrs. Louis Klink, and Mrs. Chas. Dohrer, of Cox Creek township, with other relatives and friends also mourn his death.

Mr. Meyer was an honest, industrious citizen, a kind father, a good neighbor and friend. His death in the prime of life is deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends who sorrow with the stricken relatives.

Mr. Meyer's remains were brought back to Elkader, arriving here Tuesday accompanied by his family and Mr. and Mrs. William F. Meyer, of Labolt. They were taken to the home of his brother-in-law, William H. O'Brien, and the funeral was held at 10:00 o'clock a.m., Wednesday morning, October 13, at St. Joseph's church. Rev. Father Taken, of Elkader, officiated, assisted by Rev. Horsefield, of McGregor, and Rev. Father Minogue, of Elkport. A large congregation of friends and neighbors attended. Interment was in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Relatives from out of town in attendance were, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Meyer, of Labolt, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Donlon, of Walker, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O'Brien of Dubuque, and Mrs. Julia O'Brien of Dubuque.
