Elkader Register, Thur., 30 Sept. 1920.

Ernest Chester Munger passed away at his home in Dubuque, on Monday, September 27th after an illness of nearly a year, from cancer.

Mr. Munger was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jarius Munger and was born in Read township, Clayton County, Iowa, March 18th, 1871. While he was still quite a small boy his parents moved to a farm just at the edge of Elkader on the McGregor road and here he grew to manhood. About twenty-two years ago he moved to a farm near Thorpe in Delaware County.

Eleven years ago he was married to Miss Effie McGuinnes of Durango, Ia., and two children, William, aged eight, and Mauretta, aged three, came to bless and cheer their home. About five years ago Mr. Munger and his family moved to a farm near Strawberry Point but his failing health last fall compelled them to leave the farm and last spring they moved to Dubuque.

He is survived by his wife and children and three sisters, Mrs. Delilah Tyler, of Elkader, Mrs. Agnes Ellis, of Minneapolis, and Mrs. F. Whitcomb of Mason City, besides a large circle of cousins and friends.

Mr. Munger was an earnest, industrious citizen, a good neighbor, a kind husband and father and the sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved family and relatives.

The funeral services were held at Dubuque and Wednesday the remains were brought to Elkader by auto and laid at rest in the East Side cemetery, Rev. G. Schaub, of Dubuque, officiating. Relatives from out of town who attended were Mrs. Agnes Ellis, of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitcomb and Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Whitcomb of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Hendershot, Miss Violet Hewitt and Mr. Arthur Wilkins of Strawberry Point.
