Elkader Register, Thur., 30 Sept. 1920.
The funeral services of Mrs. Will Patrick was held at the Goshen church on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 25, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Fred Riggs, of the United Brethren Church. Because of the funeral services of John Harry at Bethel the same afternoon the services were held late in the afternoon. The music for the occasion was furnished by the choir of the church. The body was in charge of Bierman Bros., from Guttenberg. Ed. Kenyon, Frank Kolker, Grant White, Nels White, Wes Palmer and Will James, all neighboring friends, served as pallbearers. The casket and pulpit. stand and table were covered with flowers brought to express the sympathy of friends and neighbors with the family. Many were present from Cassville, Guttenberg and two carloads came from the Fairview neighborhood. The church was crowded with the women alone and few men were able to secure seats inside. Lena Woodington was born to John and Sarah Woodington at Cassville, Wisconsin on August 15, 1872 and died Sept. 22, 1920 at her home in Millville township, Claton County, Iowa, aged 48 years, 1 month and 7 days. Her early life was spent at her birthplace. She grew to girlhood and young womanhood there. Her schooling was received in its public schools. Here she met and was courted by the one to whom she was married. On Dec. 7th, she was united in marriage with William Patrick. The young couple commenced housekeeping on the farm where her death occurred. For thirty years she has lived among us here. We have known of her deeds of kindness, we have received help from her in our times of need. She has come into our homes in sickness. She has sorrowed with us in our sorrows. Her life has ever been one of sympathy and helpfulness. Just following the death of her oldest child she accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour. Then in July following she united with the Goshen church. The months as they have gone by brought increased pleasure in her Master's service and during the time of her last sickness it seemed to be one of her great sorrows that she was compelled to miss the services of her church. When Sunday morning came and found it impossible for her to attend that day, she would say, "Next Sunday I'll be well enough to go." Today she is before Him in whose presence every day is one of worship. Of her father's family five sisters are living, four of whom were present at the services. To Mr. and Mrs. Patrick were born five children, Ethel, Will, Beatrice, Hazel and Lena. Ethel alone has preceded her mother to the other shore. The others remain to miss mother's presence in the home but to call her memory blessed.
