Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Aug. 1920.

William H. Crowe was born in the Isle of Man, one of the British Isles, March 20, 1842, the youngest son of Robert and Ann Crowe, and passed away at the Glawe Hospital, in Elkader, Friday morning at 6:45, Aug. 6th, 1920, after an operation for double hernia. Mr. Crowe has been in failing health since last December, but his condition had not been considered serious.

At the age of eleven years he came to America with his parents, locating in Boston, Mass., later in Chicago, and finally settling in Fayette county, Ia.

In the year 1869 he was united in marriage to Fannie Louisa Simar, after which they located on a farm in Boardman township, one mile south of Elkader, where they resided until about ten years ago, when they moved to this place, where he remained until his death.

Early in life he united with the Church of England, this faith remaining with him to the last.

He is survived by four daughters; Fannie, now Mrs. Jesse B. Turner, of Elkader; Williette, now Mrs. H. G. Cook, of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Eva and Ella at home; also twelve grandchildren. He was the last member of a family of six brothers and four sisters. His wife preceded him in death seven years ago and his constant hope since then has been that they would soon be re-united in their Heavenly home.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, at the Congregational Church, Rev. C. Hempstead officiating, interment in the East Side cemetery beside his wife.

The pall bearers were John F. Steen, Chas. Meisner, Chas. Ehrhardt, H. C. Pahlas, A. A. Dohrer and M. M. Prouty.

The out of town relatives present were:
Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Cook, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Nettie Schood, of Estherville, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hunsberger and daughter Dorothy, and John Cowe, of West Union, and Mrs. John Waldron, of Elgin, Ia.
