August Christopher Buckman was born in Indiana April 24th, 1853, the youngest son of Frederick Buckman and wife, Sophia, nee Tuemler. His parents came west when he was about one year old and settled on a farm in Read township where he grew to manhood. Here he built his own house and home and finally finished his course of life on the same place where he had lived for sixty-five years.
On May 2, 1878 he was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Dorothea Tewes of Read township and she with six children survive him.
Thursday evening, March 25, deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis and in spite of the best care that loving hands could give him, he passed quietly from earthly scenes on Saturday morning, April 3, 1920.
Those who mourn his departure are his wife and six children; Mrs. Geo. Taake, and Mrs. Aug. Taake of Read township, Mrs. Geo. Tieden of Volga township; Lorenzo of Read township and Arthur and August at home. Besides these he leaves nine grandchilden, one brother, Fred Buckman and one sister, Mrs. Sophia Koth, of Farmersburg and a large circle of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Paul church at Garnavillo with Rev. Athenstadt and Rev. Braun officiating. Interment was made in the new cemetery.
