Lyle Edmund Kramer of Urbandale, Iowa, completed his life’s journey on February 17, 2019. Lyle was born to Lawrence and Charlotte Kramer of Strawberry Point, Iowa, on September 10, 1930. Baptized into the Lutheran Church and raised on the family farm, Lyle learned from an early age discipline and commitment that he would apply to all areas of his life. He blessed the lives of many with his love, faith, and humor.

After graduating from high school, Lyle attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Following training in Kansas, Indiana and New Jersey, he was eventually stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Following an honorable discharge he returned to Iowa, where he worked at Square D Company in Cedar Rapids and completed a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Iowa.

Lyle married Eloise Miller of Rock Valley, Iowa. They settled in Marion, Iowa, where they became charter members of Resurrection Lutheran Church, one of several defining influences in the faith formation of children Scott, Susan and Tom. The family moved to Ankeny, Iowa, when Lyle accepted a position at Dial Finance in Des Moines. There he and his family became active in the life and ministry of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. In the years following work at Dial, Lyle accepted management positions with hospitals in Dubuque, Cincinnati and St. Louis, before retiring in the Des Moines area with his wife Barbara.

Throughout his life Lyle was physically active and enjoyed the outdoors. Whether it was high school baseball, a summer job with the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho or in the Green Giant fields of Minnesota, family vacations in Minnesota and Colorado, trout fishing in northeastern Iowa, pheasant hunting in central Iowa, the Kramer Olympics (!) or in later years simply mowing the lawn and walking the dog, Lyle was grateful for the natural world and shared it with those whom he loved.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and brother Melvin. He is survived by his wife Barbara; brothers William Kramer of Urbandale, IA, and Edward (Millie) of Sioux Falls, SD; children Scott (Minjing) of Seattle, WA, Sue Kramer Church (Dan) of Spring, TX, and Tom (Michelle) of Lyons, CO; grandchildren Danielle (Luis), Lindsay (Daniel), Anna and Rachel; and great-grandchildren Charlotte, Abbott, and Hayes, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Following a 10:00 visitation, a memorial service will be held on March 23, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale, with reception following.
