Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Mar. 1920. Farmersburg column.
It has pleased God the Almighty to call from the circle of family and friends one of our most beloved young ladies, Miss Alwina Henning, the daughter of Henry Henning and his wife Sophia, nee Backhaus, was born the 9th of June 1894 in Garnavillo township. She was received into the church of her Savior through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in the Lutheran church at Garnavillo. She was confirmed by Rev. Weisse in the Lutheran church at Farmersburg and received her public school education in the schools of the same town.
Last year she had to submit to an operation and it seemed that she never was so strong after the operation as she had been before.
A few weeks ago she took sick with la grippe and it seemed that the already weakened body could not overcome the disease. Everything that the love of the parents and the skill of the attending Drs. could provide, was done; but her time to go home had arrived, she slumbered peacefully away Monday afternoon, Feb. 16th.
She leaves aside from her bereaved parents, 2 brothers, Marvin and Arno, two sisters, Nelda and Selma, besides many relatives and friends.
The days of earthly pilgrimage were 25 years, 7 months and 7 days.
She was laid to rest beside her brother Harvey, who preceded her six years ago to the eternal shore, in the F. and W. Cemetery, Thursday the 19th, Rev. Dr. C. F. Braun of Farmersburg Lutheran Church officiating.
Peaceful be thy silent slumber
Peaceful in thy grave so low;
Thou no more will join our number
Thou no more sorrows know
Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the day of life is fled,
And in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where no farewell tears are shed.
