Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Mar. 1920. Strawberry Point column.
The death of Mrs. Laura Allen aged 74 years, occurred at her home east Wednesday evening after a lingering illness of diabetes. She was born in Pennsylvania Aug. 1841. After her marriage to Jefferson M. Allen they came to Iowa settling on a farm about one mile north of town where he was engaged in farming for a short time afterwards coming to town and working at the blacksmith trade. To this union three children were born, the oldest dying at the age of two. Mr. Allen preceded his wife in March 1904. She leaves to mourn her death two sons, Herbert of this place and Francis of Davenport, and four grandchildren. Mrs. Allen was a member of the M.E. church and always took an active interest in church until her health failed. She was always ready to go wherever sickness was. She was a member of the W.R.C., Rebekas, Mystic Toilers and M.B.A. Lodges. Services were held at the M.E. church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. H. Smith and the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in our beautiful cemetery.
A good woman has gone to her reward. Her work on earth is done and can be an example for us to follow.
