Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Feb. 1920. Volga column.
Our town was shocked Friday when word came that Ed. Preuss who was in Finley Hospital at Dubuque, could not live. Then Saturday word came that he had passed away. He had been ordered to the hospital by the government to be doctored as he had been gassed while in France. All hoped he would soon be home well, but such was not to be. The entire community extend their sympathy to the sorrowing family especially to his dear mother, as he was especially fond of her, and it was a severe shock to her. She will miss his many kindnesses to her.
Later in the same paper, date and column;
Mrs. Arthur Morlock and Miss Florence Preuss, of Chicago, and Helmuth Preuss, of Canbridge, Iowa, were called home by the death of their brother.
