Register and Argus, 09 Dec. 1915.
Marie Hanna Frederica Harnack was born October 6th, 1870, in Garnavillo township. She was baptized in the same year at St. Paul's Lutheran church. When she was four years old her parents moved to Farmersburg township. She was confirmed by Rev. Fred Seifert at Clayton Center when fourteen years of age.
In 1894, February 6th, she was married to Mr. Joseph Matt, a widower with eight children, to whom she was a most devoted and loving mother. Their memories of her days spent mothering them are happy and pleasant ones indeed. She was untiring in her efforts to fill their lives with love and happiness, making up to them the loss of their own dear mother. Her friends always found her unselfish and always ready to lend a helping hand when her assistance was needed.
Last June she was taken sick and after several months of patient suffering death came on Saturday morning, November 27th, at half past two.
She is survived by the following family: her husband and ten children: Mrs. Henry Schaeffer, of Eugene, Ore.; Joseph Matt, of South Dakota; Mrs. Edward Tuecke, Mrs. Louis Brandt, Theodore, William, Henry, Hugo, Hubert and Leo, all of this community; her father, Karl Harnack, three sisters, Mrs. Geo. Wilker, Mrs. William Buckman and Amanda Harnack; three brothers, Henry, Chas. and George Harnack, and seventeen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Church, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Braun officiating. Interment in the new cemetery.
