This community was shocked to learn of a sad tragedy enacted at the Fred Kurth farm in Wagner township, Monday morning, September 5th, when without the least intimation or cause Mrs. Fred Kurth hanged herself in a machine shed on the farm. Preparations had just been made to entertain the threshers, and she had been up and busy about the house, setting everything in order, when after writing a note telling of her intentions and giving instructions for the care of her two little daughters, she deliberately took her life. She was about 28 years of age, and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Henkes, living south of town. Funeral was held on Thursday.
