Franz John Barghahn was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, on January 3rd, 1847, and died at his home on Monday morning, June 21st, 1915, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 18 days, after suffering three weeks with a complication of diseases.
Deceased came to America with his father at the age of twenty-seven years. The family settled on a farm near St. Olaf, where, the following year, he was united in marriage to Louisa Reinke, and since which time they have lived near Elkader.
He is survived by his wife, five sons, John, Henry and William, of Elkader, Charles, of Glendive, Mont., and Ben, of Goshen, Ind., and two stepsons, Louis Reinke of Elkader, and George Reinke at home, all of whom were present at the time of his death. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank Jarms, of Monona, four grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Barghahn was a kind and loving father and husband, a good neighbor, and will be greatly missed by all, but mostly by those with whom he came in daily contact.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the German church, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating, and the remains were laid at rest in the East Side cemetery.
