Register and Argus, 06 May 1915. Elkport column.
Mrs. Mercy Bowman, nee Lovett, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Lovett, was born Aug. 19th, 1842. She grew to womanhood and on Dec. 16th, 1875, was married to Aaron Bowman and to this union three sons and one daughter were born, viz.: Lovett and Watson Bowman, of Toledo, Iowa; Mrs. Delbert Borrett, of Osterdock and Morris Bowman, on the old homestead, near Elkport.
Mrs. Bowman will be greatly missed by her husband and children, grandchildren, neighbors and friends, for she was ever ready to lend a helping hand in case of sickness and trouble and loved to do many little acts of kindness and love.
With tenderest care she was surrounded and given aid and comfort by those near and dear to her, for especially since her great illness of three years past she has suffered almost continually. She was very patient through it all and her Bible was a great comfort to her. Rev. Baldwin, who conducted the last sad rites for burial, fulfilled her request in choosing for his text the 23rd Psalm.
She passed away on Saturday morning, April 24th, 1915, at 10:45. Burial took place on Tuesday, April 27th, from the home to Fairview chapel and the remains were lowered into their abode in the Brown cemetery, near Colesburg, where the many friends escorted the remains to their last resting place. The text was very ably explained and could not help but bring comfort to the bereaved ones.
The songs were rendered in a sympathetic manner by Mrs. Gladys Homann, Miss Anna Bals, Frank Dennis and Mrs. C. D. Beck.
The pall bearers were Messrs. Dan Harbaugh, Ed Jennings, Jacob Schweikert, Frank Dennis, Sam Smith and Chas. Brandtmann.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of the L.C.A., of Mt. Harmony, and also of the Brown cemetery Assn. and the following six members of these societies were chosen as honorary pallbearers: Mesdames C. Schnepf, Dan Harbaugh, Fran Dennis, Chas. Brandtman, Sam Smith and J. Schweikert.
Two brothers, App and Watson Lovett, attended the burial and all of her children and many relatives from other points were also in attendance.
