Register and Argus, 01 Apr. 1915.
Geo. Witte died at his home in Elkader Friday, March 26th, of appendicitis. Two operations had been performed with the hope of saving his life and at first they promised to be successful but the promise turned out to be but a vain hope.
Deceased was born on the old home farm near Garnavillo March 3rd, 1862, and there he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Anna Tewes in 1892 and four children were born to them, three of whom are living. One daughter, Eunice, died in 1911. He is also survived by his wife, three brothers, four sisters and other relatives.
About fifteen years ago Mr. Witte decided to retire from the active work of his farm and moved with his family to Elkader, which has been their home ever since.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home and in the German church, conducted by Rev. C. H. Franks, and were largely attended.
The sympathy of our community goes out to the wife and children so suddenly bereft of husband and father.
