Register and Argus, 04 Mar. 1915.

The death of Mrs. M. G. Talley occurred suddenly last Monday afternoon shortly after five o'clock. She had been sick about two weeks with lung trouble but was apparently on the road to recovery when an abscess which had formed on her lung broke and resulted in death in a few moments.

Lena Nelson was born in Bergan, Norway, May 18th, 1862, and came to this country when she was eighteen years of age. She was married to M. G. Talley at LaCrosse, Wis., May 18, 1887. They made their home near that city for a number of years, coming to Elkader about fourteen years ago.

She is survived by her husband and four children: two daughters, Mrs. Vernie Gunderson, of Elkader, and Mrs. Ada Stemmer, of Intake, Mont., and two sons, Atwell, attending the State University at Iowa City and Ray at home. One daughter, Effie, died in 1911.

Mrs. Talley's death was a shock to the community, which will miss her sorely. She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind and helpful neighbor, and an earnest Christian woman. She was a member of the Congregational church and took a prominent part in the work of the ladies of the church. She was also a faithful member of the Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors and Yeomen orders, and will be sorrowfully mourned by their members.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with a brief service at the house at 1:30, after which services will be held at the Congregational church. Rev. Isaac Cassell will officiate. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery.

The sympathy of the community is extended to the stricken family. To God alone is given knowledge of life and destiny. To Him alone belongs the knowledge of why life is shortened, a loved one taken in an apparently untimely death. From Him alone through faith comes comfort and peace in time of sorrow.
