Register and Argus, 18 Feb. 1915. Guttenberg column.
On Friday morning at 3:30 o'clock, at his home in this city, occurred the death of Charles Thome, the cause of his death being heart trouble. Deceased was born in Oberweis, District of Trier, Germany, on March 2, 1840, and therefore was 74 years, 11 months and 2 days of age at the time of his death. In the year 1866 he came to the United States and in the year 1870 he was married to Miss Amelia Stadelhofer, at LaCrosse, Wis. In the year 1892 the family came to Guttenberg, Iowa, where deceased lived until his death. For many years the deceased followed the occupation of blacksmith. He was a kind and true husband, father and friend, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His death is deeply mourned by his widow, three sons, Michael, of Dubuque, and Peter and Frank, of Guttenberg, four daughters, Mrs. Chas. Rivot, of Summit, N.J., Mrs. Henry Schefer and Mrs. Alphonse Biasche, of New York, and Mrs. J. J. Allgeyer, of East Dubuque, Ill., and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church on Monday morning, Rev. J. H. Brinkman officiating. Interment was made in the old Catholic Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended. May he rest in peace.
