On Monday morning, Jan. 18th, Mrs. Haman, an old settler of Clayton County, passed away at her home near Osborne, at the age of 88 years, ten months and nineteen days.
Maria Magdalena Borchert was born at Waren, Germany, on Feb. 28th, 1826. She was united in marriage to Christian Haman in 1859. Eight years later the family came to America and settled in Cox Creek township, which has been their home ever since. Seven children were born to them, of whom three died in infancy.
The departure of the wife and mother is mourned by her aged husband, Christian Haman; three daughters and one son, viz.: Mrs. William Heitkamp, of Elkader; Mrs. Carl Stabler, of Mason City; Mrs. John Sturm, of Osborne, and Carl Haman, of Luana. She also leaves ten grandchildren and other relatives.
The funeral services were held this afternoon at 12:30 o'clock at the house, near Osborne, and at 2:00 o'clock at the Ev. Frieden's church, conducted by Rev. Franke. Interment in the East Side cemetery.
