DIED - At McGregor, Iowa, Sep 5th, 1859, Laura M., wife of C.J. Knight, aged 24 years.

She leaves an affectionate companion and infant son to mourn her loss. Mrs. Knight was a native of Chatauque, N.Y. She emigrated to Beaver Dam, Wis., in 1856, where June 3d, 1858 she united in holy matrimony to Mr. Knight between whom the ties of conjugal affection daily gathered strength until the time of her decease.

Her mind was early exercised upon the subject of Christianity, and at the age of 13 she gave her heart to God and to the church, from which period through extreme trial and much affliction she maintained a Christian character until her Saviour said "It is enough," and took her weary spirit home to rest.

Alas! was mine a happiness too pure for erring man to know?
Or why did Heaven so soon destroy my paradise below!
Enchanting as the vision was, it took away as soon,
As when in quick and cold eclipse, the sun grows dark at noon.

Yes, I am sad and weary now, but let me not repine,
Because a spirit loved so well is earlier blessed than mine;
My faith may darken as it will, I shall not much deplore,
Since thou art where the ills of life can never reach thus more.

Notes:
C.J. Knight = Cornelius J. Knight. He died 1898 & is buried with his 2nd wife in Pleasant Grove. Laura may also be buried there. A family tree posted to Ancestry,com shows a son, Loren born in March 1859, but that family tree is in error naming his mother.
