Clayton County Register, 18 Nov. 1885.

DIED - Mr. Gerhard Kregel, of Garnavillo, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1885. He was born in Hanover in 1790, and came to America in 1832, settling in Ohio. He came to Clayton county in 1847, where he has since lived. His wife died in 1879. He leaves 5 children to mourn the death of a kind and loving father. Mr. Kregel had a remarkable history, having served in the war of 1812 under Napoleon 1st.
