Copeland, Edward, Sr. 1826 - 1885

The grim messenger - death, has taken another of the old residents of Clayton county, to his long home, Edward Copeland, Sr. He was born in Wexford county, Ireland, June 21st, 1826, was married to Margaret Hays, April 25th, 1850. Shortly after their marriage they embarked for America, and landed at Quebec, Canada, from which place they removed to Rutland county, Vermont. In 1855 they moved to McKeithsport, Pennsylvania, and in 1859 they came to Clayton county, and settled in Highland township, where they resided until 1882, when they moved to Volga City. Mr. Copeland has been failing for several years, and his death was not unexpected. He was a Christian man, faithful in all his doings and dealings with his fellow men. He leaves a wife, three sons and one daughter, and a large circle of friends and neighbors to cherish his memory. He was 58 years, 10 months and 10 days old. His death occurred on May 1st, 1885. The funeral occurred on Sunday last, Rev. J. G. Whitford. Peace be to his ashes.
