Elkader Register, 29 Apr. 1885.

DIED - At his residence in Cox Creek township, Monday night last, occurred the death of Joseph Whittle. Mr. W. was one of the early settlers of this county, having resided here for about thirty-five years, and had many friends who will learn of his death with deep regret. He leaves a wife and several grown children to mourn his loss. His funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday), from the Catholic church. May he rest in peace.
