Elkader Register, 25 Mar. 1885.
At his residence in Highland township, on Wednesday, March 18th, 1885, occurred the death of Philip Keenan, of lung fever.
Mr. Keenan was born in county Formanuagh, Ireland, in 1822, and was therefore 63 years of age at the time of his death. In 1850 he was married to Miss Margaret Dolan, made his wedding tour to the United States and first settled at Pittsburg. He resided at Pittsburg until about 1870, when he came west, and purchased the farm in Highland township, on which he ended his life.
Mr. Keenan was an honorable man in all his dealings with his fellow men, and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.
He leaves a wife and seven children, five sons and two daughters, to mourn the loss of a loving husband and a kind and indulgent father.
The funeral occurred on Friday last, and his remains were followed to their final resting place in the Catholic cemetery at Elkader, by a large number of friends and neighbors. "After life's fitful fever, he sleeps well."
