Elkader Register, 25 Mar. 1885.

At the residence of his parents in Read township, on Wednesday, March 18th, 1885, occurred the death of Stephen Edward Connell, aged 31 years and 6 months. He had long been a sufferer from diabetes, and it finally resulted in his death.

Deceased was a native Clayton County boy, and was honored and respected by all who knew him. He was buried on Friday, the 20th, in the Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo, his remains being followed to their last resting place by a large number of sorrowing friends. May he rest in peace.
