Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at one-thirty at the late home and at two o'clock in the Frieden's Evangelical church for Mrs. Frank Tieden, who died very suddenly last Saturday.
The deceased, Anna Marie Tieden, was the daughter of John Ortman and his wife Mary nee Ehlers and was born May 12, 1876 in Elk township, Clayton county, and died at her Elkader home Jan. 6, 1940, at the age of 63 years, seven months and 25 days.
Mrs. Tieden received her school training in the Elkport and Guttenberg schools. On Nov. 27, 1895, she was united in marriage to Frank Tieden who survives her in death. Three children were born to this union: Raymond Glen Tieden, Florence May Witte and Don Duane Tieden, all of Elkader.
After their marriage they started to farm on the home place where they remained until four years ago when they retired from active life and moved to Elkader.
Mrs. Tieden suffered a stroke about five years ago and was confined to her home for some time. Although weakened by the attack and handicapped, she made the best of life and brought cheer to her family and friends.
The deceased was an active member of the Frieden's Evangelical church and its Frauen Verein. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors.
The deceased leaves to mourn her sudden departure besides her husband and the forenamed children; three brothers and one sister, August and Henry Ortman, Elkport; Otto Ortman of Kittitas, Wash., Mrs. George Gifford of Elkport. Also six grandchildren mourn her passing, and also a large circle of friends.
Services from home Monday, Jan 8 at 1:30, and Frieden's Evangelical church at 2 p.m.
Burial was made in the East Side cemetery with the following serving as casketbearers: Gus Mentzel, Lorenzo Buckman, A. A. Schultz, Fred Wistrick, Pearl Huggins and Orlando Bailey.
The Rev. P. Kitterer, her pastor, officiated at the services and at the grave.
