Rev. Ludy LechnerParmer H. Schlake was born the son of Albert and Laura (Hamann) Schlake, April 29, 1913, on the family farm near Garnavillo. He was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church on May 25, 1913, and confirmed on October 10, 1926. He died Friday, September 3, 2004, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Parmer received his education from the Garnavillo School and farmed with his family for many years. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and served on the church council as president. He was a member of the Garnavillo Historical Society, and enjoyed driving school bus and traveling. On June 28, 1939, he was united in marriage with Shirley Kishman at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Marilyn (Richard) Lingwall of Mesa, Arizona; one son, Robert (Pat) Schlake of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Nathan (Kendra) Lingwall, Stephen (Lynn) Lingwall, Michaela Leigh Schlake and Jason Parmer Schlake; one great-grandson, Wyatt Lingwall; one step great-grandson, Chal; special friend, Oceania Fischer; one sister-in-law, Eunice Burnett of Las Vegas and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister, Laverne Yohe.
Internment will be at the Garnavillo Cemetery.
