Elkader Register, 23 May 1884.

On Wednesday the sad news was received here of the death of M. O. Barnes, one of the early settlers of Strawberry Point, and formerly one of the leading merchants of that place. Mr. B., has been sick for a long time. He was a member of the Masonic order and of the Universalist church. The funeral occurred yesterday, under the auspices of the Masons, and was attended by a number from this place. May he rest in peace.
