Added by S. Ferrall 6/22/22:

As promised last week we give a brief notice of the life of Mrs. Carrie Austin, who departed this vale of tears so suddenly and under such sad circumstances, Friday morning, Feb. 22nd, 1884. One day a happy wife, looking forward with expectancy to a happy future, and the next in the cold embrace of death.

Mrs. Austin was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.N. Steele, and was born at Edgewood on Nov. 19th, 1862, where she resided in her childhood days, until she removed with her parents to this place in about the year 1870, and Strawberry Point has been her home since. Here she received her education in our schools, and here she has made hosts of warm friends by her winning ways and deeds of kindness.

On Dec. 24th, 1878, she united in marriage with Mr. Frank Austin, and the union has been a most happy one, and now this golden band, that held this happy home together has been severed, leaving the hearthstone desolate.

The grief of the bereaved parents over the death of their almost idolized daughter, as well as that of the stricken husband and the helplessness of the motherless infant, calls out the sympathy of the whole community.

The funeral services were held by Rev. Amsden, of Manchester, who was assisted by Revs. Tomes and Perry of this place.
