WILLIE MEYER
The deceased Willie Meyer was born on July 12, 1878, at East Elkport, now Garber, Clayton county, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in the home of his mother and foster-father.
After reaching the age of maturity, he became a faithful employee, both of Alex and Albert Matt. For the past 13 years he was a devoted servant of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Berns, who looked upon him not only as their employee, but also provided a home and a life for him as only friends will do.
On Saturday morning of last week he was attacked by an infuriated animal which left him in a very bruised and wounded condition. He was hurriedly taken to the West Union hospital. Here he remained conscious, never complaining of any pain, until he succumbed to death Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p. m. He reached the age of 59 years, two months and seven days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer, and his foster-father, Henry Lindenberg. Also by a half-brother, Henry Lindenberg, and a half-sister, Mathilda.
He leaves to mourn, two brothers, John of Hammond, Wis., and George of Nashua, Iowa; two sisters, Elizabeth, of Deep River, Iowa, and Anna, of Saskatchewan, Canada. Also two half-sisters, Minnie, Mrs. Lundt, and Bertha, Mrs. Aug. Ortman, both of Elkport.
Being blest with a humble and unassuming nature, he was a loving and obedient son and a faithful employee wherever so engaged. He was known as a pleasant and charitable neighbor who refused not to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
[NOTE: His death certificate, available at familysearch dot org, states that his residence was near West Union, Iowa, and that he died as the result of being gored by a bull.]
