Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Sept. 1880.
DIED - At his home in Elkader, on Thursday, Sept. 9th, 1880, George R. McCoy, of general debility; aged 74 years.
The deceased was born in Scotland, and for many years resided at Troy, N.Y., from whence he emigrated to this state in 1856. He has been a respected citizen of Elkader for twenty years, laboring at his advocation, that of gunsmith. He had many peculiar traits of character, was unassuming and lived alone for many years, but withal was a good citizen, very industrious and attended closely to his own business. He leaves one son. Old age and general debility has been sapping his life and strength for months past, and at last he passed away peacefully to that "borne beyond the waters." The funeral occurred on Friday, the remains being followed to the cemetery on the east side by a large concourse of friends. Appropriate remarks were made at the grave by S. K. Adams, after which the remains were consigned to their last resting place. Respected by all, may he rest in peace.
