DIED - At her residence in Elkader, on Friday January 17th, 1880, of congestion of the lungs, Mrs. Mary Mahoney, aged 77 years.
Mary Coombs was born at Denham, Maine, in 1803, and at the age of 2_ years was married to Eben Mahoney, whom she survives. With him she came to Clayton County 27 years ago, and has resided here ever since, Mr. Mahoney dying here and being buried in the cemetery on the east side. She was the mother of 10 children, five boys and five girls, 6 of whom are alive; Lute Mahoney of this place being one of her sons.
She was highly respected by all who knew her, and her death will be mourned by a large circle of friends. May she rest in peace. The funeral occurred Monday afternoon at two o'clock, and was largely attended by friends and relatives.

We are glad to make record of the fact that when Mrs. Mary Mahoney died and was buried in January last, Mr. Eph. W. Mahoney, dutiful son, of Marshall, Minn., sent a draft of $55.20, a sum sufficient to cover all the funeral expenses. He had been sending his mother money each month for some time previous to her death, and in all his acts showed a love and duty toward his aged mother that all children could profitably emulate.
