SCHMITZ, KURTZ, MEYER

Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Dec. 1898.

On Tuesday of last week, Henry Schmitz, formerly of Communia, but recently residing and working on a railroad section at Partridge, Minn., met with a sad death. That evening together with the section boss and station agent, Schmitz took a hand car and went to Sandstone to purchase Christmas gifts for his family. In returning they were met by a wild freight train and the section boss and Schmitz were killed and the station agent severely injured. Mr. Schmitz's remains were brought to McGregor, where Mrs. Chas. Kurtz, his sister resides, for burial. Besides his sister he leaves a wife and two little girls. Mrs. Schmitz was formerly Augusta Meyer, a daughter of Geo. Meyer, of Motor. The funeral was held at McGregor on Tuesday, Rev. Mr. Marshall officiating. It was a sorrowful Christmas for this family.
