Elkader Register, Thur., 17 Nov. 1898.
That death loves a shining mark is exemplified in the sudden demise of Florence, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dittmer, of this place, about 10 o'clock Tuesday evening, Nov. 15th. She was born Nov. 2d, 1893, and was 5 years and 13 days old when the angel of death appeared.
Little Florence was the pride of her loving parents, and she was so bright and winsome and overflowing with life and joy that even strangers were attracted. She with her parents visited her grandparents in Cox Creek Sunday and was apparently as well as ever until Monday morning when she began to complain and then rapidly grew worse in spite of every care until she passed away with congestion of the lungs.
The funeral was held this afternoon, services being held in the Congregational church by Revs. Seifert and Fisk, the church being crowded by sympathizing friends of the family. Six girls, Annie Stemmer, Lizzie and Carrie Schmidt, Dora, Venus, Ida Wilke and Florence Munger serving as pall bearers, and were attended by others bearing flowers.
To the loving parents we can only say, in voicing the sympathy of all: Trust in Him, trust that He who sees all sees best, although it is hard to part with one so precious.
