On Thursday, Sept. 22nd, at Garnavillo, occurred the death of Mrs. Henry Oelfke of a lingering illness.
Anna Meta Sundermann was born Jan. 19, 1829, in Verde_, Hanover. She came to America in 185_ and was married to Henry Herman Oelfke, March 14, 1857, in Cincinnati, Ohio. They came to Garnavillo in May 1869. She was the mother of 9 children, of whom eight are living: Mrs. Anna Pesch, Emmettsburg, Ia; Louis Oelfke, of Garnavillo; John Oelfke, Rubicon, Wis.; Mrs. Emma Thompson, Cylinder, Ia.; W. C. Oelfke, Elkader; Henry Oelfke, Emmettsburg; Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor, Emmettsburg, and Adam Oelfke, a member of the 52nd Iowa Vol., at present sick with typhoid fever at Emmettsburg. Mr. Oelfke is also living. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother and her memory will long be honored by her children. The funeral occurred Saturday afternoon, Rev. Gammelin officiating.
