At the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Schaffer, at Clermont, where she had resided for the past seven years, at 2:25 Tuesday, June 28, 1898, Marie A, Lamm passed away to the silent shore. Marie A. Roth was born in Baden, Germany, in April, 1818, where she was united in marriage with Arbogast Lamm. They came to the United States in 1832, settling in Erie county, N.Y. In 1853 they came to Clayton county and settled on a farm in Wagner twp., where Mr. Lamm died in the 71st year of his age. To this union ten children were born, eight of whom survive to mourn the loss of Mother. They are: Mrs. Geo. Stich, Xavier and Joseph Lamm, of Elkader; Mrs. Geo. Higgins and Mrs. M. C. Steyer, of Decorah; Mrs. Henry Schaffer, Clermont, Henry Lamm, of Harlan, Ia.; and Edward Lamm, of Watertown, S.D.
The funeral was held from the St. Joseph's church at this place Wednesday morning, solemn high mass being celebrated by Rev. Father McCabe, of Clermont, assisted by Revs Father Reilly, of Elkader, and Father Coyle, of Cedar Falls.
Among those present from abroad to attend the last sad rites were: Henry Lamm, Harlan, Ia., Edward Lamm, wife and two children, of Watertown, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Steyer, daughter Lena and son George, and Mr. and Mrs. George Higgins, of Decorah; Mrs. Henry Schaffer and daughters Elizabeth Anna and Rose, and sons Henry, Frank and Charles, of Clermont; and Miss Christina Arnold, of Cedar Falls.
