Elkader Register, Fri., 24 Mar. 1894.
Early Monday morning at the residence of his son Frank, in this township, after a few months illness, Ernest Meisner passed away into the great beyond. Deceased was the son of Fred and Dorothea (Liebskind) Meisner, and was born in Aldenburg, Saxony, Germany, on May 10th, 1828. His father was a wagon maker, and after Ernest had received a good common school education he also learned the trade. In 1852 he came alone to the United States, stopping a short time at Detroit, Mich., then for two years at Barnesburg, O., and then came to Chicago. Here he was united in marriage to Christinia Schmidt, Sept. 11th 1854. After the marriage they moved to Batavia, Ill., and in the fall of 1855 came to Elkader. Here he worked at the trade for six years and in Oct. 1860, settled on the farm in Boardman township. Mrs. Meisner died Aug. 10th, 1894. Of the ten children born to them five sons, Louis, Charles, Rynhold, Frank and William survive the loss of father and mother. One brother, Edward Meisner, Sr., also mourns his loss.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the Congregational church, Rev. F. L. Fisk and Rev. Mr. Fitschel, of Elkport, officiating. The Elkader Gesang Verein attended and assisted in the singing. The last sad rites were largely attended by sorrowing neighbors and friends of the family.
