Edward Kerr.
The subject of this sketch, died in Chicago, March 11, 1898. He was the son of James Kerr, of Highland twp., this county, where he was born April 29, 1869, and was at his death aged 28 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was a resident of Highland until the age of 21 years, when he went to Chicago and engaged in the milk business with his brother-in-law, Mr. Fairweather, and was in his employ until 4 years ago when he engaged in the same business for himself at 3137 Fifth Avenue, Chicago. After being in business about a year he met with a misfortune in spraining an ankle. He thought nothing of it at first, but as it continued to trouble him he entered a hospital and then another, and then after two surgical operations, about one year ago, had his leg amputated above the ankle. He got better and left the hospital, seeming to gain strength, when he was attacked by hemorrhage of the lungs and died as stated above. He bore his afflictions with great patience, never complaining, and was cheerful until the end.
Deceased was a brother of Mrs. Young, Mrs. M. Fairweather, Mrs. Melbor, Mrs. Pardee, Robert and James Kerr, of Chicago, and Thomas, John, Urias, Henry, Elizabeth and Jessie Kerr, of Highland.
His remains were brought home to Highland Monday, March 14th, and the funeral was held from the old homestead of his father James Kerr, the interment being made by the side of his mother in the cemetery at the Union church. Rev. Mr. Crousaz, of the Presbyterian church, officiated at the service. May he rest in peace.
