The funeral of Mrs. Katherine Doran occurred on Tuesday, March 15th, 1888 (1898). Katherine O'Keefe was born at Maryborough, Queens County, Ireland, Nov. 21, 1814, at the time of her death was aged 83 years, 3 months and 22 days. She was united in marriage with Patrick Doran on June 11th, 1840, in the parish of Coneheagh, county Killkenny, Ireland, by Rev. Father Foley. Her husband came to the United States n the spring of 1847 and enlisted on Govenor's Island, New York, in the United States army and was sent to the Texas frontier, where he died at Fort Duncan about 1849. The wife came to America in the fall of 1848, and after residing in New York City for about 11 months came to Garnavillo and resided with her sister and brother-in-law, N. Delaney. Three or four years later she came to Volga twp., and resided on the farm where she died. She leaves one son, James Doran, and three daughters Mrs. Partick Conley, Mrs. Mary Welch and Mrs. Patrick Hurley, all residents of this county, besides these 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren survive her. Of her four sisters and five brothers only one, Mrs. Margaret Curran, is still living. She has fought the good fight, may she rest in peace.
