Elkader Register, Fri., 25 Feb. 1898.
Otto John _. Cassidy, son of Jeremiah and Amelia C. Cassidy, died at his home in this township, Feb. 17, 1898, aged eight years, one month and eight days.
About two weeks ago he complained of his head hurting him and he was kept out of school but not till Wednesday morning of last week were there symptoms of danger.
He was a brave and patient sufferer and after his surrender he remained conscious but nine hours. He said to his sister Millie, "I want to go to be with Jesus" and that he wanted to "Just fall asleep."
His prayer was answered. He was well known and greatly loved, many were the inquiries concerning him during his sickness. His form is no longer with us, but his influence is and will remain in the minds of those who knew him. We mingle our tears with those who mourn the loss of a dear one, through these tears we look upward, for Heaven is near, the attraction upward is strengthened by each one who passed before. He passed away as one asleep.
