Elkader Register, Fri., 21 Jan. 1898. Clayton column.
On Tuesday night, January 18th, 1898, at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beacom, occurred the death of Miss May Kernahan, resulting from catarrhal consumption. Miss Kernahan was born in Fayette County, Iowa, on the 8th day of April, 1878. She advanced rapidly in her studies at school, and at the age of 17 years was highly qualified as a teacher of public schools. In June, 1897, she came to Clayton to visit with her grandparents. In Sept. her mother took her to Chicago to be treated by specialists but no relief was found. She returned here and failed steadily until death relieved her suffering. The remains were taken to her mother's home in Fayette for interment. The funeral services will be held at the M.E. church at that place of which she was a devout member. May her slumbers be the sweetest.
