Elkader Register, Fri., 14 Jan. 1898.

The uncertainty of life is impressed upon our mind in writing of the subject of this sketch. With hardly a warning Peter Willmes passed away Wednesday night, Jan. 12th, 1898. Although subject to asthma he had not been complaining and retired apparently in his usual health. About 11 o'clock his brother Nicholas, who slept with him, heard him choking and got up to assist him, but before anything could be done Mr. Willmes was gone.

Deceased was born in the village of Kaundorff, Luxemberg, Germany, Dec. 25th, 1826. He came to America in 1857 with his parents, four brothers and two sisters, and the family first settled at Rosehill, Chicago, and three months later came to Luxemberg, Dubuque County, where they rented a farm. In 1861 they came to Boardman township and secured the farm where Mr. Willmes died. One brother Nicholas, and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Miller and Mrs. N. Youtsch, with a number of nephews and nieces survive him. He never married.

Deceased was known as an honest, upright man, who by industry had secured a competence of this world's goods and was inclined to use them for the good of his fellow men. He will be missed and mourned by many friends.

The funeral will be held Saturday morning, starting from the house at 9 o'clock.
