Elkader Register, Fri., 13 Dec. 1895. Elkport column.
On Saturday Dec. 7th, 1895, occurred the death of Mrs. Anna Phalen, of Volga twp. Mrs. Phalen was the daughter of our esteemed citizen, Charles Blanchaine, and was a lady of the highest worth. But two short years ago she was married to Thomas T. Phalen, one of the worthy young farmers of Volga twp., and their union was a happy one. It is with the deepest sorrow that we are called upon to chronicle the death of this most estimable lady. Having known her for a number of years and know of the many good qualities possessed by her that is now gone, we can deeply sympathize with the bereaved husband and father in their irreparable loss. The funeral took place Monday and was the largest ever seen in Elkport. To the bereaved husband, father and relatives our people extend their most heartfelt sympathies in this their hour of affliction. The remains were buried in the Blanchaine family lot, Father Dollard officiating.
