Elkader Register, Fri., 26 July 1895.
At her home in Elkader, Monday, July 22d, 1895, Mrs. Barney Crowley died.
Margaret Denning was born in County Limerick, Ireland, and is supposed to be about 80 years of age. She came to America at an early age and in Detroit, Mich., in 1835, married James Keenan, who afterwards served as an officer in the Mexican War. To this union seven children were born, four sons and three daughters, all of whom survive. Mr. Keenan died May 5, 1854. In 1857, Mrs. Keenan married Barney Crowley, a widower with three small children, to whom she became a devoted and beloved mother. For many years they resided in Highland twp., but a few years since moved to Elkader. She leaves an aged husband, seven children and three step-children, besides many friends, to mourn the loss of a devoted wife, a beloved mother and a kind neighbor. The funeral was held on Wednesday, at St. Joseph's church, Rev. Father Reilly officiating. She has fought the good fight, may she rest in peace.
