Elkader Register, Fri., 24 May 1895. Volga column.
Last Friday morning, May 17th, at two o'clock, occurred the death of Mrs. Fanny B. Chapman at her home in this place, after nine months of intense suffering with cancer. She has been a most patient sufferer, and though the pan seemed almost unendurable at times, never a murmur escaped her lips. She was always so cheerful and social that her friends could scarcely realize how great her suffering was. She was ready and willing to die, and when the summons came it was as sleep to the tired child, so peaceful was the departure. Fanny B. Ross was born Nov. 9, 1821, in Westfield, Medina County, Ohio, and was married in 1843 to Jeremiah Chapman, who departed this life eight years ago. Five children were born to them, two of whom, Mrs. A. Tenney and Miss Mary Chapman, with four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, are left to mourn. Mrs. Chapman was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church in 1877, and two years ago became a member of the Church of Christ of this place. Funeral services were held in the Union church Saturday at two o'clock, and were largely attended. Rev. Hallett, of Arlington, preached the funeral discourse and the remains were laid to rest in the Volga cemetery, to await the resurrection.
