Elkader Register, Fri., 26 Apr. 1895. Volga column.
Mrs. Orpha Drake, or Grandma Drake, as she was affectionately called by many, passed from this life last Friday evening, April 19th, surrounded by her children, who witnessed in her death the triumphant departure of one of the saints of God. She celebrated her 88th birthday April 17th, a ripe old age. Mrs. Drake was one of the aged people who "grow old beautiful." Cheerful and happy during her recent illness, she had many a kind word of council for her dear ones, and she frequently gave testimony of her readiness and willingness to go when the Master should call her home. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Henry White, and five sons, Lyman, Leon, Julian, George and Forrest, a large number of grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren, besides many friends to cherish her memory. The funeral was held at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. White, where her home has been for many years, Rev. J. G. Whitford preaching a brief discourse. The floral tributes were beautiful.
