Elkader Register, Fri., 19 Apr. 1895.

At the residence of Wm. Cheeseman, of this township, on the 15th inst., Mrs. Absalom Underwood passed away at the advanced age of 91 years. Mary Wells was born in Lincolnshire, Eng., in 1804. In 1825 she married Absalom Underwood, the family coming to this country in 1847, located first at Cleveland, Ohio, and then moving to this county. Nine children were born to them, four boys and five daughters, of whom one son, Wm. Underwood, of Brush Creek, and Mrs. Wm. Cheeseman, Mrs. Wm. West, of Highland, and Mrs. Geo. Cheeseman, of Michigan, survive with many grand and great-grandchildren, to love and revere the memory of loved one who as departed. The funeral was held Wednesday morning from the M.E. church at Elkader, Rev. F. I. Stevens, officiating, the interment being in the East Side cemetery.
