Elkader Register, Thur., 17 Jan. 1895. Volga column.
The sad intelligence was received at this place Friday afternoon of the sudden death of Mrs. Etta Phillips Miller, wife of Lewis Miller, which occurred at their home in Millford, Iowa, after only a few hours illness, on Friday, Jan. 11th, 1895, caused by a ruptured blood vessel. Mrs. Miller was born in this place and grew to womanhood in our midst, and was 24 years of age at the time of her death. She visited here among her many friends and relatives in September and was in good health and spirits. The remains were brought to Volga on the morning train Saturday and conveyed to the home of Grandma Phillips. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church Sunday afternoon and were largely attended, Rev. L. S. Cooley preaching the discourse. A young husband, whose deep sorrow touches the hearts of all, father, mother, two sisters, three brothers, besides a large circle of relatives and other friends are left to mourn for her whom it has pleased the Father to call unto himself while still in the bloom of youth. May the grief-stricken ones look above for the consolation which they may have of the glad meeting on the other shore.
