MARY GUHL, 87, DIES JANUARY 1

Mary Sophie Elizabeth Guhl, age 87, died New Year’s day at the home of her step-niece, Mrs. Louis Gilster. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Schultz Funeral Home, Monona, with the Rev. H. H. Kirschmann, pastor of the McGregor Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was at Monona.

Mary Sophia [sic] Elizabeth Georges was born in Germany on August 17, 1850. In 1887 she was married to Fred Guhl who died ten years later. In 1908 she came to America and made her home with her brother at Garnavillo. Sixteen years later she was again made homeless by the death of her brother, and from that time on she made her home with the Louis Gilsters.

She leaves no immediate relatives. Her step-niece [sic], Mrs. Louis Gilster, of near McGregor, another niece, Bertha Georges of Minneapolis, and two neephews, John Georges of Lily, S. D., and Louis Georges o Medesda [sic], Calif., are her nearest relatives.

Monona: Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Gull (nee Goerges) aged 87 were held from the Carl G. Schultz funeral home Tuesday at two o'clock. She died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gilster near Giard.
