Elkader Register, Thur., 01 June 1893. Elkport column.

John Schwichtenberg, one of the old settlers of Elk twp., died Monday night of heart disease. He was an honorable and upright man and his death cast a gloom over the community. May he rest in peace.

Note: Although it is possible that he went by the name John, more likely this is Frederick, father of John Schwichtenberg. Frederick & his wife Ida have a gravestone and are buried in the Zion cemetery, Delaware co. IA. Frederick's dates on gravestone: 3/25/1819 - 5/29/1893
