Elkader Register, Thur., 22 Nov. 1894.

Miss Mary Drips, who died at Mt. Pleasant, Ia. Nov. 9, 1894, was born in Westmoreland county, Pa., May 24, 1817. She came to Iowa in May, 1850, and was a resident of the state until the time of her death. Her first home was at Garnavillo, where she united with the Congregational church upon a recommend from the Presbyterian church of her late home. In 1871 she went to National and thence to Clermont in 1889, where she resided with her only sister, Mrs. Powell, now at Tacoma, Wash. From early childhood she was an ardent Christian and died in the faith. Joseph Drips, of Mallone, Ia., and Mrs. Powell are the only remaining ones of a family of eleven brothers and sisters. In addition to these a number of nephews and nieces and many friends mourn her loss.

The funeral services were held in the M.E. church at National, conducted by Rev. Franklin Fisk, of the Congregational church of Elkader, after which her body was laid to rest in the family lot of the National cemetery. As we looked upon the casket as it was lowered to its final resting place, we realized, oh how truly, the words so fitly chosen for the text, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them," also, "I am the resurrection and the life." The relatives present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Werger and family, of National; and Mr. and Mrs. Barnard, of Elkader, both ladies being nieces of deceased.
